What Is Tartare?
Tartare is a dish consisting of finely chopped or minced raw meat or fish, typically seasoned with various ingredients and served cold. Commonly made with beef (steak tartare) or Tuna (Tuna tartare), it often includes additions like onions, capers, mustard, and fresh herbs, all mixed together to enhance the flavor of the protein. The dish is usually presented in a molded form and accompanied by condiments.
You can trace the origins of tartare back to French cuisine, where chefs traditionally served it with a raw egg yolk on top. Over time, variations of tartare have emerged globally, incorporating local flavors and ingredients.
About the Protein: Vegan Tuna
Biology: Vegan Tuna is a plant-based alternative designed to replicate the texture and flavor of traditional Tuna. It is typically made from ingredients like soy protein, pea protein, or other plant-based sources.
Taste & Nutrition: Vegan Tuna mimics the firm, meaty texture and rich, hearty flavor of traditional Tuna. The color and taste can vary depending on the ingredients and preparation methods. Vegan Tuna is an excellent source of plant-based protein and often fortified with omega-3 fatty acids derived from algae.
Cooking: Vegan Tuna is incredibly versatile in the kitchen. You can enjoy it in a variety of dishes such as vegan sushi, sashimi, salads, sandwiches, and wraps. Its texture and flavor adapt well to different cooking methods, though we recommend it raw and chilled for this particular recipe.
Sustainability: Vegan Tuna is an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional Tuna, which can have significant impacts on ocean ecosystems due to overfishing and bycatch. By choosing vegan Tuna, consumers support more sustainable food systems and reduce the demand for overfished Tuna species.

Directions
Thaw Boldly Tuna* Sashimi in the fridge overnight (approx. 8 hours).
Once thawed, press the Tuna* Sashimi with a firm amount of pressure to release the excess water before slicing. (This can be done with a tofu press or cutting board with manual pressure.)
Cut the Tuna* into small, uniform cubes and place them in a bowl.
In a separate small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, Sriracha (if using), grated ginger, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
Pour the dressing over the cubed Tuna* and gently toss to coat evenly. Be careful not to over-mix, as you want to preserve the texture of the Tuna*.
Add the sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds to the bowl and gently mix them with the Tuna*.
Taste the tartare and adjust the seasoning if necessary. You can add more soy sauce, sesame oil, or Sriracha according to your preference.
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
Once chilled, remove the Tuna* Tartare from the refrigerator. If desired, you can add additional toppings such as sliced avocado or cucumber.
Serve the Boldly Tuna* Tartare on individual plates or bowls, garnished with more green onions or sesame seeds, fresh parsley, and Sriracha sauce if desired. Accompany it with wonton crisps or tortilla chips for scooping. Enjoy!
