Full product description

Fresh Mexican uni delivers clean Pacific flavor, natural sweetness, and a creamy texture at a more approachable price than our top-tier Santa Barbara uni.

Wild-harvested from the Pacific waters of Baja California, this uni comes from the same broad kelp-forest ecosystem that extends along the California coast. Each tray is carefully graded and packed fresh for sushi, sashimi, rice bowls, pasta, and other raw or lightly prepared dishes.

Why Mexican Uni?

Pacific Kelp-Bed Origin

Baja California’s rocky coastline and productive kelp beds create natural feeding grounds for sea urchin. A kelp-rich diet helps produce uni with balanced sweetness, clean ocean flavor, and rich umami.

Wild and Diver-Harvested

Mexican sea urchins are selectively collected by divers rather than gathered through large-scale trawling. This small-boat fishery allows individual urchins to be harvested and handled with care.

Premium Quality at a Better Value

Mexican uni offers an excellent middle ground for customers who want fresh, restaurant-quality sea urchin without paying the premium associated with Santa Barbara’s highest grades.

It is not meant to imitate inexpensive processed uni. This is fresh Pacific sea urchin roe selected for flavor, texture, color, and raw preparation.

Flavor and Texture

Mexican uni has a clean, ocean-forward flavor with mild natural sweetness, rich umami, and a delicate mineral finish.

Expect:

  • Creamy, melt-in-your-mouth texture
  • Light sweetness
  • Balanced brininess
  • Clean Pacific flavor
  • Slightly firmer structure than ultra-premium Santa Barbara uni

Because sea urchin is a wild product, its color, sweetness, and texture can vary slightly with season, diet, and harvest location.

How to Enjoy Mexican Uni

Sushi and Sashimi

Serve chilled over warm sushi rice as nigiri or gunkan. Add only a small amount of fresh wasabi or soy sauce.

Uni Rice Bowls

Spoon the uni over seasoned rice with ikura, scallions, shredded nori, or sliced sashimi.

Uni Pasta

Gently fold the uni into warm pasta with butter, olive oil, or cream. Avoid high heat to preserve its delicate flavor.

Hand Rolls

Pair with sushi rice, crisp nori, cucumber, shiso, or salmon roe.

Simple and Untouched

Enjoy directly from the tray. High-quality uni needs very little seasoning.

Mexican Uni

  • More approachable price
